Pamela Cunningham Copeland New Member Participation Award   “Pamela Cunningham Copeland, a long-time member was a prominent horticulturist and philanthropist.  Mrs. Copeland founded Mt. Cuba Center to conserve Piedmont species and inspire and enable visitors to enjoy native plants.  During her lifetime, Mrs. Copeland generously shared Mt. Cuba with the club for meetings, propagation workshop, and storage and growing on of Philadelphia Flower Show plants.  Mrs. Copeland was also an avid and successful participant in the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show. Therefore, it is fitting that an award honoring Mrs. Copeland recognizes a new Garden Club of Wilmington member who is likewise an enthusiastic participant”.  Established 2016.

Nancy McLean Award for Civic Improvement  “Nancy was a longtime member and her horticultural talents were many but it was her devotion to her community and commitment to helping others that will be remembered.  She could always be counted on to be there when someone was in need. Her directness and marvelous sense of humor helped her win support for the causes in which she deeply believed.  Nancy was the one people relied on in a crisis and she knew how to make people laugh”. Alberta Melloy Flower Arranging Award for a Novice Awarded only once to a deserving new member during her first five years in the club who gives generously of her time and effort on behalf of the club in the field of floral design.  In remembrance of Bert’s love of flowers and willing volunteer service.

GCW Polly Hill Propagation Award Presented to a club member who has actively studied and built expertise in the propagation/cultivation of plants and uses those plants in a diversity of natural and designed landscapes. This award honors Polly Hill, a member of the Garden Club of Wilmington.  Polly was a practical gardener and at the age of 50 with patience and determination she decided to grow an arboretum by sowing a seed. Her impressive contributions to American horticulture, include the registration and introduction of seventy-nine cultivars in eleven genera.  As a consequence of her generosity and the outstanding nature of her selections, Polly Hill introductions are now cultivated in gardens around the globe! Established 2023.
