Membership Committee

The committee considers Membership proposals, as well as nominations for Honorary Members and Advisory Board Members in order to welcome those who best exemplify and promote the Club’s mission and activities. This committee is composed of six Active Members or Associate Members of diverse ages, three of whom shall be elected each year for two-year terms.  All Members of the Membership Committee shall have been Active Members for three years or more, and at least two of the six members shall have been Active or Associate Members for five years or more. Finance Committee

The Finance Committee, created in 2020, acts as a resource to the GCW Executive Committee and the Treasurer by reviewing financial transactions to ensure that they are in accordance with the bylaws of the organization and standard accounting practices. The President, First Vice President, the Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer serve on this committee. As well the committee is charged with:

- Evaluating whether funds are appropriately invested and 

- Assessing whether advisable amounts are held in cash, short-term investments, and long-term investments.

The Finance Committee meets no fewer than twice yearly and makes recommendations on allocation and management of GCW funds (restricted, designated, unrestricted, and operating). From its review, the Finance Committee assesses the overall financial health of the GCW. Members of the Finance Committee are empowered to meet with the bookkeeper and/or the CPA as deemed necessary.

The Finance Committee is responsible for maintaining minutes and reporting to the Executive Committee in writing at least once a year.

Awards Committee

The committee selects and nominates Members for Garden Club of Wilmington awards and GCA awards and medals for outstanding achievement in many different areas related to horticulture, botany, conservation, historic preservation, environmental protection, flower arrangement, landscape design, and literature.   Club and GCA Awards recognize and thank our members for their contributions, and giving these awards is a way of honoring those valued and talented member of our club and our community.  This committee consists of the Chair or Vice Chair of all of the Standing Committees.

GCW Advisory Committee

The GCW Advisory Committee consists of invited members of the community who have made contributions to horticulture, conservation, civic improvement and other areas of interest to the club.

Nominating Committee

This committee is charged with nominating Club officers and new Members of the Membership Committee. The committee consists of three Active Members and/or Associate Members designated in January by the Executive Committee.  The Nominating Committee presents the names of officers and the three candidates for the Membership Committee.  Club Members may send suggestions to the Nominating Committee during the first two weeks of February.  The committee members are be appointed annually in December,
