DCH - Dig It: a Rare Plant Auction

  • Delaware Center for Horticulture 1810 North Dupont Street Wilmington, DE, 19806 United States (map)

Dig It: a Rare Plant Auction® event, which will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

With the success of our 40th and Final Rare Plant Auction®, held at DCH in 2022, DCH is bringing back a similar event with a focus on our mission, programs, and work we do in the community. Trees, shrubs, perennials, tropicals, houseplants, and non-plant items will be our focus at the auction, with an additional selection of plants dug from local horticulturists’ gardens. The event will also feature specialty food stations and an open bar.

This year's Celebrated Plant Expert is David Culp.

Proceeds from this event support DCH’s core program areas that span workforce development to public education and community outreach.

Branches to Chances®: A Return to Work Program and the Delaware River Climate Corps (DRCC)trains the unemployed and underemployed for careers in horticulture. This training includes a focus on urban and suburban ecology; exposure to productive landscapes through participation in DCH’s  E. D. Robinson Urban Farm, and through Community Forestry activities. As part of the hands-on training, which accompanies a classroom curriculum, participants are engaged in planting hundreds of trees each year, learning about tree care and maintenance, while gaining knowledge about green infrastructure, urban agriculture and native plants. DCH’s public programs and community outreach additionally  provides  a variety of workshops, presentations, trainings, and activities, both at DCH as well as within our local communities, to inspire people of all backgrounds to learn about, engage with and share a love of our natural world.

Please note: the Auction Preview will begin at 5:30p.m., with general admission gaining access starting at 6:30p.m.
